Where it began

Vinyl Mag was founded by University of Georgia Alum, Emily McBride, in 2011 as a part of the university’s Music Business Certificate program. Emily worked tirelessly to create an online music magazine centered on accessibility, community and (of course) a love of music. Over the years, Vinyl Mag expanded to include a whole roster of writers, editors, and other team members. All of whom shared one common thread—believing that good music could be found anywhere.

Although home remained in Athens, Georgia, their drive and work ethic took them all across south-eastern U.S. Vinyl Mag attended South by Southwest in 2013, 2014, and 2015, interviewing Charli XCX, Marina & Diamonds, Colony House, and more. There were dozens of festivals covered, hundreds of shows attended, and countless hours spent listening to music. All for the love of being fans.

In its almost decade-long run, Vinyl Mag experimented with different types of content, filming artist interviews, reviewing fashion trends, and taste-testing festival food. Nevertheless, our core mission remained the same—to facilitate conversations in music, while always putting fans first.

Now, Vinyl Mag returns with the same mission but a renewed vision. After some trial and error, Vinyl Mag is officially relaunching. We’ve updated our website, revived our social media pages, and can’t wait to share our latest favorites with you. We’ll be going near and far to bring you our favorite new tunes and the hottest conversations in music.

Check in often to see the newest music updates and recommendations! Don’t forget to follow us on Spotify, where we post frequently updated playlists.
